Children's Paradise Montessori School, in collaboration with Cebu Safari, Fr. Loreto Jaque, and RAFI-Center for Leaders (RAFI-CFL), offered for the 1st time an integrated and holistic boot camp, ECOCENTRIC EDUCATION: Animals Are People Too on May 10-11, 2023 at Cebu Safari, Carmen, Cebu. In this camp, CPMS children were given the opportunity to immerse themselves in caring for animals as junior zookeepers and vets. They are the first group of children who explored the Cebu Safari's Breeding and Research Center (BRC) and will be mentored by the veterinarians of Cebu Safari led by Dr. Glenn Perez, Cebu Safari Life Sciences Head and Chief Veterinarian and a CPMS Parent. The children were given the privilege to witness and have first-hand practical experience of the behind the scenes of a zoo. Furthermore, with RAFI-CFL facilitators, the children were given opportunities to reflect, journal, and share their discoveries, insights, feelings, and ideas after every major activity while ensuring their safety and active engagement. Fr. Loreto Jaque provided creative activities that integrated the children's experiences and learnings by unifying their beings, minds, hearts, and souls with nature through storytelling while having a campfire, forest bathing, and meditation. Children's Paradise Montessori School is a Child-Centered Community of Practice. It is in its collaborative efforts that co-designs a unique, integrated, and eco-centric camp program with its partners like Fr. Loreto Jaque, Cebu Safari and RAFI-CFL, co-advocates and co-champions of Eco-Centric Education. With them, CPMS continues to create relevant and fun experiential learning opportunities for children.
