80 participants from various Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises engaged in the Fisheries sector and food-related value-chain in Cordova joined the Food Safety Awareness Training organized by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), in collaboration with the AFOS Foundation through the FISH Visayas Project, on August 24 at Alta Cebu Resort.

The training initiative played a pivotal role in FISH Visayas' overarching mission to uplift and fortify the seafood industry in coastal Cebu, particularly in Cordova, where the bounty of the sea is abundant.

The Food Safety Awareness Training was meticulously crafted to empower Cordova's market vendors and fisherfolk with the essential techniques and standards vital for safe and hygienic food handling. By ensuring that those in the fish and food industry can consistently deliver fresh and safe products to consumers, the program not only strives to elevate the quality of seafood but also nurtures trust within the broader market ecosystem.

FISH Visayas recognizes the pressing need to enhance the skills and capabilities of market and industry participants. In an ever-evolving market landscape, local players must adapt to new business paradigms to avoid losses from surplus and remain competitive. By equipping these stakeholders with the essential skills and knowledge, FISH Visayas paves the way for their growth and sustainability.

Dr. Jose Elli, a distinguished expert in food processing, led the Food Safety Training, bringing invaluable insights to the participants. Dr. Elli's expertise in food safety was instrumental in providing a comprehensive understanding of hygiene standards and preservation techniques, which can extend the shelf life of seafood products. Ultimately, this benefits not only consumers but also industry stakeholders by reducing waste and ensuring product quality.

FISH Visayas remains steadfast in its commitment to empower communities, aligning with its vision to enhance and sustain incomes for fisherfolk and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in both the Fisheries and Food-related Value Chains across Central Visayas, Philippines.
