The Cebu City Vice Mayor's Office pledge support for the maritime industry, endorsing the upcoming CEBU Maritime Expo (CME) and Boat Show 2024. This groundbreaking event, the first of its kind in Visayas and Mindanao, is scheduled to unfold from April 18 to 20, 2024, at the Sky Hall SMX of SM Seaside City in South Reclamation Properties, Cebu City.

Hosted by the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SONAME) in collaboration with the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and organized by Full-forced MarketStrat Gateway Business Support Services (FMG), the three-day expo, themed "From Tourism, Promoting Safety to Innovations," seeks not only to showcase the maritime industry's significance and highlight Cebu's potential as a major hub for global navigation lines but also to spotlight maritime tourism in the Philippines, an archipelagic country composed of 7,641 islands.

Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia, the Head of the Cebu City Waterfront Development Commission, reiterated the city's commitment to supporting the event, emphasizing its positive impact on tourism and job opportunities for Cebuanos. During the courtesy visit led by SONAME Secretary Engr. Doyle Figueras and FMG Managing Proprietor Frances Gatungay, Vice Mayor Garcia continued to express his support, commending the success of the first edition. The inaugural event drew a substantial number of exhibitors participating in both indoor and outdoor exhibitions, representing the local and international maritime industry.

As the 2nd CME approaches, expectations are high for increased participation, with more exhibitors projected to join and exceed the 3,000 visitors from the previous 3-day event in 2023. The expo provides a platform for experts, pioneers, industry stakeholders, and decision-makers to present innovative ideas, state-of-the-art designs, product launches, specialty services, and explore investments, all under one roof.

The upcoming expo, hosted at the Sky Hall SMX, will feature indoor and outdoor exhibitors showcasing a diverse range of vessels. From Philippine bancas and functional boats to luxury yachts, the exhibits will be displayed at the concrete public beachfront at the SRP.
SONAME Secretary Doyle Figueras underscored the expo's significance in unifying the maritime ecosystem, emphasizing maritime tourism, innovation, and digital transition.

Figueras added that Marina is being proactive in promoting Cebu as a 'top maritime city' since the first edition of CME, aligning with their comprehensive 10-year Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP) and their vision to position Cebu globally.

With the Philippines recognized for providing seafarers and officers to the global marine fleet, CME 2024 aligns with Cebu's roadmap for maritime primacy, aiming to generate economic benefits through maritime tourism, stimulate interest, and attract investments.

The expo also seeks to revive Cebu's local boating industry through sustainable tourism and best practices, leveraging the presence of leading shipbuilding firms in the province.

The expo's potential as a pioneering platform showcases a strong synergy between private and government agencies, steering Cebu towards becoming a global navigation destination and a fully integrated maritime hub.
