Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu Resort reaffirmed its commitment to environmental responsibility with the successful launch of “Waves of Change,” a coastal and underwater clean-up initiative held last July 26, 2025, in partnership with Dive and Clean Up Cebu Club and E & Z Diving Center. The event is part of the resort’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program focused on sustainability and marine conservation.

Spearheaded by ocean, wellness, active lifestyle, and self-love advocate Ms. Ludy Demecillo, the clean-up drive drew over 50 plus participants, including professional divers, resort employees, and volunteers, all working together to protect the fragile marine ecosystem surrounding the resort.

Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu Resort General Manager Laurent Betourne emphasized the vital role of the ocean in the identity and experience of the resort, stating that preserving its beauty and health is a top priority. He also revealed plans for an upcoming seaweed farming project within the resort’s coastal waters—an initiative that aims to provide sustainable livelihood for local fishermen while enriching the marine environment.

Before the underwater activities, Dusit Thani’s medical team conducted health checks, including vital signs and blood pressure monitoring, to ensure the safety of all scuba participants. The briefing and event flow was led by Assistant Training Director Mr. Lucky Tom Quijano, covering proper procedures and program flow.

Meanwhile, on land, Director of Human Resources Ms. Cheezka Marie Mercader led the coastal clean-up operations, mobilizing the full support of Dusit Thani’s employees and volunteers. The team worked along the shoreline to collect debris and marine waste carried in by the current, reinforcing the resort’s dedication to preserving its natural surroundings.

To celebrate the team’s efforts, the resort hosted a hearty breakfast and a sumptuous buffet lunch for all participants. Certificates of appreciation were also distributed as a token of gratitude for their commitment to environmental action.

The “Waves of Change” event is just one of many initiatives Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu Resort is planning in the months ahead as it continues to advocate for ocean protection, environmental awareness, and sustainable tourism practices.
