Demonstrating its continued commitment to environmental sustainability, SM Supermalls in Cebu participated in a coordinated coastal cleanup drive on March 21, 2026, in observance of World Water Day, contributing to the removal of over 2,000 kilograms of waste from key waterways.

A total of 380 employee-volunteers from SM Seaside City Cebu, SM J Mall, and SM City Consolacion took part in the effort, working alongside the Cebu Bantay Dagat Commission in simultaneous cleanup activities aimed at addressing marine and riverine pollution.

At the South Road Properties, 300 volunteers from SM Seaside City Cebu, SM J Mall, and NU Cebu joined forces in collecting 1,321 kilograms of waste, consisting largely of plastic debris and other non-biodegradable materials that threaten coastal ecosystems.

In a parallel effort, SM City Consolacion deployed 80 volunteers for a cleanup along the Laray Riverside, collecting 828 kilograms of waste and contributing to the restoration of the local waterway.

Collectively, the cleanup efforts resulted in the removal of 2,149 kilograms of waste, underscoring the impact of sustained, on-the-ground participation in environmental initiatives. While modest in scale relative to the broader challenge of marine pollution, such efforts contribute meaningfully to preserving Cebu’s coastal and river ecosystems.

The activity forms part of SM Supermalls’ wider sustainability initiatives, which include waste management, environmental awareness, and community engagement programs aligned with global observances like World Water Day. By taking part in collaborative efforts with environmental groups and local stakeholders, SM Supermalls continues to support initiatives that promote cleaner, healthier communities.

As environmental concerns persist across rapidly urbanizing areas, efforts by SM Supermalls continue to complement public initiatives, reinforcing the shared responsibility of protecting Cebu’s natural resources, one cleanup at a time.
